Launched in December 2011, Samuel is a bimestrial magazine from Última Instância Editorial. Its aim is to publish anew the best articles of Brazilian and international alternative and independent press.
Samuel was inspired by the successful model of magazines such as Utne Reader (USA), Courrier International (France) and Internazionale (Italy), which invest in curating and reprinting well-written and highly informative articles featured in many different publications. When put together in a different context, these pieces complement each other and take on new meanings.
The number of independent publications grows everyday with newspapers, magazines, blogs, websites and academic and research journals. It is not always simple and viable to the reader to single out what is really relevant amongst all this content. Samuel does that and gathers the best of Brazilian and international independent press in a magazine filled with interesting and relevant themes — in Politics, Economy, Culture, Science and Technology, Environment and Society.
With Samuel, we intend to convene hundreds of thousands of new readers of reportages and analysis — high quality information which would otherwise remain unnoticed. And we are also determined to promote independent publications and journalists bringing a new view to understand the reality.
